Checklist: before you make an offer

Ten things to check so the lot you win is one you can import and sell.

  • The condition grade is allowed in your country.
  • Regulated items (cosmetics, electrical, appliances) have the registrations or certificates your market requires.
  • U.S. appliances run on 110–120 V. Do not buy them for 220–240 V markets.
  • You have read the manifest and checked the top lines' resale prices locally.
  • You have the CIF estimate for your port, and your broker's estimate of duties on that value.
  • The pallet count fits the container you want (about 10 floor pallets in a 20 ft, about 20 in a 40 ft).
  • Your bank can wire USD in advance, and you know the deposit you can send.
  • Your customs broker is ready for the documents we send.
  • You know the closing time on the lot.
  • You know where the goods go on arrival and who unloads them.
